The study aimed to evaluate muscular damage induced by antibiotics (sulfado
xine with thrimetoprime, amoxicillin long acting, lincomycin and oxytetracy
cline long acting) administered via the intra-muscular route according to a
standardised procedure to pigs in laboratory or farm conditions (2 and 5 m
onths old respectively) in order to precise wether laboratory results are c
orrelated to farm ones. Post-injection muscle damages were noted and quanti
fied according to a morpholopical procedure based on the scoring of macrosc
opic observations at injection sites after reglementary withdrawal period o
r a longer waiting period. Results showed that lesions are larger and more
frequent with farm breeding animals. A great variability of the results sho
ws the need to improve the method for the evaluation of such muscle damages
.
