This article examines the parties of the extreme right with an accent on th
e Czech extreme right wing party (SPR-RSC). Using basic theories and empiri
cal evidence which deal with the electoral success of parties of the extrem
e right we reproduced a basic profile of their voters, then, examined the s
ituation of Czech politics we performed some empirical analyses to test the
validity of the theories of the extreme right in the CR. Our findings show
that the social background of republican voters does not significantly dif
fer from the social background of similar parties in other European countri
es. We also found possible explanations for the electoral failure of SPR-RS
C in the elections to the Chamber of deputies in June 1998. social insecuri
ty and rising unemployment which may have led a number of supporters of SPR
-RSC to vote for parties of the left. In 1998 SPR-RSC also failed in the mo
bilisation of non-voters and first-time-voters.
