Food production - due to application of developed technologies - has also i
ts negative effects in the process of environment pollution. Injurious emis
sions of intensive production units are counted as major problems in animal
production. To protect the environment, design and diffusion of less harml
ess technologies have to be emphasized. In case of herbivorous species gras
sland based farming delivers a number of environmental and economic advanta
ges. By taking these aspects into account it can be concluded that both for
small- and large scale units the basic prerequisite for profitable milk an
d beef production is grazing.
