To protect the environment, design and diffusion of less harml ess technologies have to be emphasized. In case of herbivorous species gras sland based farming delivers a number of environmental and economic advanta ges. By taking these aspects into account it can be concluded that both for small- and large scale units the basic prerequisite for profitable milk an d beef production is grazing.
