In 1998 the picking performance has been studied for different picking meth
ods in apple. Measurements took place at seven fruit farms for two picking
methods. The picking with "harvest-cart" is compared with the newer method
"Pluk-o-trac". The time-measurement method is adapted for records during th
e apple harvest. There is a strong indication for a significant difference
between the two harvest methods, at the measured farms. The method Pluk-o-t
rac led to a 24% higher picking performance as the "harvest-cart". Due to t
he low number of fruit farms in the study, results should be interpreted ca
refully.
