Possibilities of applying formal models of reasoning for applications
in systems of geological forecast are discussed. We propose a variant
for formalization of reasoning by expert geologists within the framewo
rk of a well-known method of so-called geological analogies. It is sho
wn that the numerical variant of the JSM system (JSM means of construc
tive abduction, which allow one to generate qualitative models for num
erical data in the process of analysis of data properties) can be used
for the analysis of heterogeneous geological data and forecast of oil
and gas bearing of a particular region.
