The concept of the self in analytical psychology exhibits a transempirical
character. This transcendent function is represented as 'complexio opposito
rum'. On the other hand, the concept of the self is not simply attributable
to persons, rather it belongs to the interpersonal realm of the 'between'.
The present paper tries to demonstrate that the constitution of the self -
as a transcendent function - belongs to the field of metapsychology of int
erpersonality and can be elucidated only from this point of view.
