This paper is concerned with the application of the Overhauser C-(1) contin
uous boundary element method to the calculation of electromagnetic scatteri
ng. The method preserves C-(1) continuity of the smooth parts of the surfac
e of a scatterer and of the unknown functions which are defined on it. Resu
lts for a perfectly conducting sphere have been compared with those obtaine
d from Mie theory and the C-(0) formulation. They show that the C-(1) versi
on requires fewer surface nodes and significantly less computer time for hi
gher frequencies to provide results of equivalent accuracy. Some results fr
om an Ogive have also been calculated and compared using the C-(0) and C-(1
) formulations. Copyright (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
