Migraine has become an important topic in the field of complex genetic diso
rders. The identification of a gene on chromosome 19p encoding for an alpha
1A calcium channel subunit causing familiar hemiplegic migraine has led to
the classification of migraine as a channelopathy. More recently, efforts
have been made to clarify the genetics of other primary headaches. (C) 1999
