Abstract
A new upper bound on the bit error probability using Chernoff's bound of tr ellis code modulation (TCM) is introduced. It can be applied to a frequency -selective Rayleigh fading channel. The bound indicates a new design criter ion, which is the product of the intersymbol interference (ISI) distance.
