Abstract
Successful bidirectional transmission of 80 channels each carrying a 40 Gbi t/s ETDM signal over 40km of standard singlemode fibre is reported for the first time. To the authors' knowledge, the overall data rate of 3.2Tbit/s i s the highest aggregate capacity demonstrated over a single fibre. The elect romagnetic analysis of a dielectric loaded rectangular cavity using the 3D transmission line matrix method is presented, It is found that in order to excite all the modes within a frequency range, the field polarisation and l ocation of the excitation brick in the TLM analysis must be properly select ed. For the resonator of concern, the results of computation of the first I I resonant frequencies show excellent agreement with the experimental resul ts.
