Abstract
The successful demonstration of a Mach-Zehnder type electroptic modulator b ased on nonlinear optical organic-silica hybrid films is reported for the f irst time. A sol-gel process for preparing organic-silica hybrid materials, the thermal stability of the poled films, and the fabrication and operatio nal characteristics of the Mach-Zehnder modulator are described.
