Abstract
Using the transfer matrix method we have studied the effect of the temperat ure on the appearance, the width, and the location of the photonic band gap (PBG) for the air cylinders embedded in a slab of vinyl chloride polymer. For two different lattice parameters we have found that the behaviour of th is polymer with respect to the temperature in the visible region is strongl y different from that of the far-infrared region. Furthermore, results of c omparison in the far-infrared region with the PEG material which is constru cted with methylpentene polymer are reported. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevie r Science B.V.
