Forest Science was launched in 1955. Publication patterns reveal that most
authors have been affiliated with US universities and most papers have been
in the area of forest ecology, mensuration, and forest biology. During the
1970s and 1980s there was a trend toward longer papers and more authors pe
r paper; in 1994 the first trend reversed but not the second. Forest Scienc
e is well respected as one of, if not the leading scientific outlet for for
estry publications. But the advent of related journals and increasing speci
alization of fields could change its publication patterns.
