W. Niedermeier et B. Freund, Nano-structure blacks - A new carbon black family designed to meet truck tire performance demands, KAUT GUM KU, 52(10), 1999, pp. 670-676
Nano-structure blacks are a new carbon black family produced by physical su
rface modification in a furnace reactor. Various grades with altered specif
ic surface areas and structure levels are now available. The main character
istics of these novel blacks is a unusually rough surface which leads to en
hanced interaction forces with rubbers. Due to a narrow aggregate size dist
ribution with limited amounts of large aggregates not only hysteresis but a
lso treadwear is improved compared to conventional blacks. This makes nano-
structure blacks particularly suitable for usage in truck tire applications
