Abstract
The review summarizes the results of experimental and quantum-chemical anal ysis of the structure, spectral parameters (optical, radio, and IR spectros copic), and reactivity of the main types of paramagnetic and diamagnetic po int defects that are stabilized on the activated silica surface or can be o btained by its directed chemical modification. The method for the preparati on of highly reactive intermediates grafted onto the silica surface are ill ustrated by numerous examples.
