The dependence of the exciton-photon interaction, which is given by the Rab
i-splitting, has been studied by magnetophotoluminescence and by detailed c
alculations in three-dimensionally structured photonic microcavities. The R
abi splittings corresponding to several distinct confined photon modes have
been observed. They are found to increase monotonically with increasing ma
gnetic field, independent of the confined photon state involved. Numerical
calculations show that the increase arises from the enhancement of the exci
ton oscillator strength with increasing magnetic field. [S0163-1829(99)0563
