Abstract
To explore the character of underlying transport in a sandpile, we have fol lowed the motion of tracer particles. Moments of the distribution function of the particle positions, [/x(t) - x(o)/(n)] = D(0)t(nv(n)), are determine d as a function of the elapsed time. The numerical results show that the tr ansport mechanism for distances less than the sandpile length is superdiffu sive with an exponent v(n) close to 0.75, for n < 1. [S1063-651X(99)17410-5 ].
