Part-time therapeutic treatment centers (CATTP) constitute a quickly growin
g group of treatment structures which use diverse functioning styles. The f
irst aim of this article is to demonstrate certain theoretical bases and sp
ecificities which are common to all CATTPs (that is, the notion of part-tim
e activity, continuing school attendence and treatment outside of the hospi
tal). Secondly, we risk to introduce a discussion concerning the interest a
nd indications of such treatment, but also the limits of CATTPs.
Part-time therapeutic treatment associated with continuing school attendanc
e makes it possible to establish : 1 / treatment through a network and the
linking up of participants with different functions at multiple levels. Thi
s plurality introduces important triangulations for the therapeutic process
; 2 / an alternating rhythm of times of absence and presence offering the p
ossibility to work con the temporo-spatial continuity-discontinuity binome;
3 / an individualized project for each child as a function of the flexible
treatment time.
The CATTP framework defines the dimensions of the canvas upon which the chi
ld and the health team will weave links between places, and between the mul
tiple participants with their different functions.
The CATTP, " a place among other places " will mobilize processes of differ
entiation symbolization and representation, and will thus permit the child
to achieve mentalization. It is this weaving together of thoughts, this com
mon psychic elaboration which is therapeutic and which makes it possible fo
r the child to have access to personal psychic space.
