A novel pulling mechanism for crystal growth based on a metal rod's thermal
expansion is proposed. The pulling rate of this apparatus can be controlle
d continuously and smoothly by a temperature controller. A NaCl single crys
tal 20 mm in diameter and 4.17 mm in thickness has been successfully grown,
proving the feasibility of this new device. Further improvements and poten
