The He-3 produced by the tritium disintegration induces the formation of st
ructural and microstructural defects in Pd and LaNi5 tritides which change
their thermodynamic properties. The larger change of the thermodynamic prop
erties of LaNi5 intermetallic compound compared to that of palladium with a
geing time is related to a larger increase of the local disorder measured b
y EXAFS. These distinct behaviours can be explained by the formation of dif
ferent kinds of defects.
