Abstract
The structures of three garnets, namely, tricalcium diiron(III) trigermaniu m dodecaoxide, tricalcium diyttrium trigermanium dodecaoxide and trimagnesi um diyttrium trigermanium dodecaoxide, have been determined by X-ray diffra ction using flux-grown single crystals. The cation distributions correspond to a normal garnet structure for (Ca3Fe2Ge3O12)-Fe-[8]-Ge-[6]-O-[4] and Ca -3([8])-(Y2Ge3O12)-Ge-[6]-O-[4], and to an inverse garnet structure for (Mg Y2)(Mg2Ge3O12)-Mg-[8]-Ge-[6]-O-[4].
