Vaccination for food producing animals is a fast evolving field. The evolut
ion in this field is not only due to scientific and technical progresses, b
ut also to a different, more epidemiological, approach of vaccination. Vacc
ination for food producing animals did also broaden its perspectives; in so
me cases, the aim of vaccination is more to protect human health than anima
l health. Finally other aspects are taken into consideration, such as anima
l welfare, protection of consumers and environmental protection. The proble
m of bacterial resistance to antibiotics may partly be solved by the coming
back of preventive vaccination.
