Abstract
An analysis of the influence of the Gibbs free energy onto lamella-rod tran sition in the Al-Si eutectic alloy is presented. The definitions of the sol id/liquid interface undercooling given by Jackson and Hunt theory are appli ed to the analysis. The continuous decay of the anisotropy of the Si/liquid interface free energy until the achievement of the Si/liquid interface iso tropy in function of the growth rate is also taken into account. It is assu med that both average value of the interface free energy sigma(Si)(L) and a verage angles theta(Si)(L), theta(Al)(L) at three-phases junction are chang ed with the growth rate. Additionally, the mechanical equilibrium at three- phases junction is satisfied at each growth rate imposed for the process un der investigation.
