Abstract
The main features of the soil cover of Rapa Nui are revealed on the basis o f field investigations and literature data. The morphology, chemical compos ition, mineralogical properties, and genesis of soils are characterized. Th eir geographical distribution is shown on the soil map of the island. The u se of the soils in the present and in the past is also given.
