The normal state conductivity, sigma(omega), of a system of interacting lar
ge polarons is calculated within the Random Phase approximation and some nu
merical results are presented. The behaviour of the optical absorption as a
function of the charge carrier density and of the temperature is analyzed
for different values of the electron-phonon coupling constant. It is shown
that sigma(omega) exhibits features similar to those observed in the infrar
ed spectra of the cuprates.
