M. Millet et al., Chemical composition of total deposition onto the facades of a historical monument: The collegiate of Thann (Alsace, France)., FR ENV BULL, 8(11-12), 1999, pp. 639-644
Total (wet + dry) deposition of ionic trace substances on the surfaces of a
n historical monument (collegiate of Thann, France) was determined monthly
using collectors plates. The most important compounds were SO42- (mean of 3
.89 mu eq.m(-2).d(-1)), Ca2+ (mean of 7.08 mu eq.m(-2).d(-1)) and Na+ (mean
of 2.49 mu eq.m(-2).d(-1)). It was observed that the building itself was a
source of particulate materials such as sodium salts and CaCO3. Sodium sal
ts and acidic pollutants (H2SO4, HNO3 and HCl) play a role on the degradati
on of the stone.
