Supercritical water oxidation was applied to the destruction of municipal e
xcess sewage sludge. The reaction was carried out in a batch reactor with h
ydrogen peroxide as an oxidant in the temperature range of 723-823 K. Ammon
ia and acetic acid are found to be refractory intermediates in supercritica
l water oxidation of organic wastes. Ammonia concentration produced during
the reaction was measured as a function of reaction time. The dynamic data
were analyzed by a first-order kinetics. The reaction rate constant coincid
es with those reported in the literature.
