Graphitized blacks prepared by destructive decomposition of the intercalati
on compounds C2.14FCl0.07 . 0.12ClF(3) and C2.14FCl0.07 . 0.09CCl(4) react
with chlorine trifluoride at room temperature to yield a compound with the
formula C2F0.98Cl0.06 and an interlayer spacing of 6.2 Angstrom. As found b
y F-19 nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy, this compound
contains no intercalated chlorine trifluoride, presumably because of the sm
all particle size of graphitized blacks.
