Photothermal effects in nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) on dye-doped polymer
film, which caused self-phase modulation, were investigated using Kirchhof
f's diffraction integral including higher-order optical phase modulation. T
he self-phase modulation was also analyzed by numerically solving a heat-co
nduction equation. The photothermal effects, including dependence on the pu
mp beam intensity, were successfully described with good accuracy by the he
at-conduction analysis.
