Zn this work the temperature and concentration dependence of the thermal di
ffusivity of MgSc alloys is reported. Measurements were carried out from 20
degrees up to 300 degrees C and from 3.2, up to 19.0 wt.% Sc using the fla
sh method. The thermal conductivity was calculated as the product of densit
y specific heat and thermal diffusivity. The thermal conductivity of MgSc a
lloys increases with increasing temperature and decreases with increasing c
oncentration of Sc. The concentration dependence of all thermophysical prop
erties (thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity, density and specific hea
t) is also presented. The results are discussed together with the electrica
l resistivity data from the literature. The electronic and phonon thermal c
onductivity is calculated using the Wiedemann-Franz law. (C) 1999 Elsevier
