A new output-feedback control approach for the single-axis rotational maneu
ver of a flexible structure by use of on-off thrusters is discussed. The ta
rget Structural model represents a large-space-structure type with relative
ly low natural frequencies. The large overshoot induced by phase error of t
he applied torque input is minimized by the new control law. The thruster o
utput is modulated in pulse width so that the output profile is similar to
continuously smoothed control histories. The main idea of the new controlle
r is based on a dosed-loop switching function that is constructed from a ne
ar-minimum-time output-feedback tracking control law. The preposed control
law has advantages of robustness as an output-feedback law as web as enhanc
ed performance for the slew maneuver of flexible structures by use of on-of
f actuators.
