An alternative reaction route for the production of In-111 from rhodium tar
get bombarded with a C-12 beam has been developed. Sulfate fusion was adapt
ed for dissolution of the irradiated rhodium metal target. Indium was copre
cipitated with La(OH)(3) and purified by solvent extraction of the InBr3 co
mplex into di-isopropyl ether and back extraction in 6M HCl. The chemical y
ield of the separation, determined using Rh-105 as tracer, was found to be
above 90%. The radionuclidic purity of the separated In-111 satisfies the r
equirement prescribed for radiopharmaceutical preparations. The radioactivi
ty yield achieved using this route was about 0.2 MBq/mu Ah.
