Abstract
Condensation of cyanoacetamide and cyanothioacetamide with the sodium salts of alpha-(hydroxymethylene)alkanones afforded the pyridine-2(1H)-ones and their corresponding thiones 3. Compounds 3 served as a key intermediates fo r the synthesis of N-glycosylated pyridines.
