Jp. Berge et al., Antiviral and anticoagulant activities of a water-soluble fraction of the marine diatom Haslea ostrearia, PLANTA MED, 65(7), 1999, pp. 604-609
A water-soluble fraction from the marine diatom Haslea ostrearia was capabl
e to inhibit the in vitro replication of HSV-1 in Veto cells with 50 % inhi
bitory concentration (EC50) of 14 mu g/ml at a multiplicity of infection of
0.01 ID50/cells. In addition, this fraction delayed the HIV-l-induced sync
itia formation on MT4 cells. At:concentrations up to 200 mu g/ml, no cytoto
xicity was observed for both the Vero and MT4 cells. The fraction only inhi
bited the blood coagulation process at concentrations considerably exceedin
g the EC50.
