Abstract
The nanofriction properties of molecular deposition (MD) films on various A u substrates were investigated using atomic force microscopy. It is conclud ed that whatever the anioned Au surface and the monolayer MD film on a Au s ubstrate are, if decorated with alkyl chains, both of them have certain lub ricated effects. Moreover. the alkyl-terminated process is able to stabiliz e the nanofriction characteristics of the surface and to reduce the frictio nal force obviously. It is of significance for seeking a new nanoscale lubr ication film.
