Magnetic field effect (MFE) on the radical pair generated by the electron t
ransfer from photoexcited [Ru(bpy)(2)(H(3)pzbzim)](ClO4)(2) to methyl violo
gen in aqueous sodium laurate micellar solution has been studied by using l
aser flash photolytic technique. It is found that the initial fast decay of
absorption remains unaffected in presence of an external magnetic field; i
n contrast, the free radical yield at longer times increases with increase
of field. This insensitivity of the initial decay rate with field is consis
tent with the singlet spin parentage of the radical pair. The increase of f
ree radical yield at longer times is a consequence of the Delta g mechanism
of the radical pair theory.
