En. Mikhailova et al., Some process aspects of preparation and use of carboxyl-containing polyvinyl alcohol fibers, RUS J AP CH, 72(7), 1999, pp. 1272-1275
The temperature and time conditions of esterification with maleic acid of p
olyvinyl alcohol fibers of various brands, differing in the temperature of
dissolution in water, were studied. A simplified process was proposed for p
reparing water-soluble carboxyl-containing polyvinyl alcohol fibers, with c
ombined heat treatment and esterification with maleic acid of freshly forme
d fibers. The public-health tests of the carboxyl-containing fibers were pe
rformed, and a positive toxicological conclusion was received for these fib
ers as hemosorbents.
