Abstract
The Onsager theory of irreversible processes is used for analyzing the surf ace stress of a solid isotropic electrode. A Lippmann's equation is derived for the trace of a surface-stress tensor. The equation is valid in both th e zeroth and first order by the magnitude of the surface deformation.
