Sudden death accounts for a significant proportion of all deaths in patient
s with heart failure. Of currently available therapy, amiodarone and the im
plantable defibrillator (ICD) appear to have the greatest potential to redu

formation on the relative role of amiodarone and implantable defibrillators
(ICD) in heart failure is reviewed.
