A new diagnosis of the genus Antarctonemertes Friedrich, 1955 is given. Two
species, Tetrastemma phyllospadicola Stricker, 1985 and T. dilutebasisae K
ulikova, 1987 are transferred to Antarctonemertes. Tetrastemma quasioculata
Korotkevitsch, 1977 is synonymised with A. papilliformis (Korotkevitsch, 1
977). Antarctonemertes varvarae sp. n. from the Sea of Japan is described.
The new species differs from similar A. dilutebasisae in a greater length o
f body (up to 25 mm), the smaller ratio of the basis length to that of styl
er length (S/B = = 0.73-1.00), the pressence of the ventral stomach pouche
and the duration of reproductive period (from February to May). The genus T
yphloerstedia gen. n. with a single species, T. anadonac nom. n. (=Oertedia
vittata Anadon et Bitar, 1992 non Hubrecht, 1879) is established. Antarcto
nemertes, and probably, Typhloerstedia belong to the family Oerstediidae st
at. n. (upgraded from subfamily rank) and the subfamily Antarctonemertinae
stat. n. (upgraded from tribe rank). A key to identifying the genus Antarct
onemertes is given.
