Characteristic ultrastructural changes of the blood vessels in Alzheimer's
disease /AD/ suggest a role of blood vessel factor in this type of dementia
. Eighteen of the patients with an Alzheimer's type of dementia were studie
d, as well as seventeen patients with due to brood vessel changes, and twen
ty healthy individuals were also analyzed. For rheological measurements a m
icroviscosimeter Contraves LS-40 and filtration method were used. In the AD
group of patients, statistically substantial lowering of deformation of th
e leukocytes /p< 0.05/ was found, which significantly correlated with the v
alue of aggregation of erythrocytes /p< 0,02/. In the group with vascular d
ementia a statistically substantial drop of the albumin/globulin ratio /p<
0,05/ was observed. Compared analysis of both groups of patients did not sh
ow significant differences. The changes in the physical features of the blo
od in AD group may support the hypothesis of angiogenic role in this diseas
