S. Herminghaus et al., Vascular dementia: non invasive essay of pathologic neurochemistry using proton MMR spectroscopy (H-1 MRS), 1ST INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON VASCULAR DEMENTIA, 1999, pp. 189-194
Single Volume Proton Spectroscopy of deep white matter areas of the centrum
semiovale was applied to study the pathologic neurochmistry in Vascular De
mentia (VD). Significant (p<0.05) decrease in N-Acetyl-Aspartate and increa
se in Chorine-compounds was assessed most probably reflecting axonal damage
and ongoing degration of myelin shears. These findings are likely to diffe
rentiate VD from other dementias.
