T. Jobo et al., Histopathological analysis of endometrial hyperplasia and stage Ia adenocarcinoma, 7TH BIENNIAL MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL GYNECOLOGIC CANCER SOCIETY, 1999, pp. 79-82
It has been reported that endometrial hyperplasia is a precancerous lesion
of endometrial carcinoma and FIGO stage Ia endometrial carcinoma is believe
d as the earliest stage of endometrial adenocarcinoma. The objective of thi
s paper is to clarify the pathological features of endometrial hyperplasia
and stage Ia endometrial carcinoma. Forty-five patients with stage Ia endom
etrial carcinoma who underwent surgical therapy and 86 with endometrial hyp
erplasia who underwent dilatation and curettage were placed for the study.
It is concluded that stage Ia endometrial carcinoma usually associated with
endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma is adjacent frequently with endometr
ial hyperplasia especially complex atypical one. Simple hyperplasia occurre
d from the proliferative endometrium under the condition of unopposed estro
gen and subsequently changed to complex hyperplasia and complex atypical hy
perplasia and complex atypical hyperplasia is the precursor to endometrial
hyperplasia.
