G. Favalli et al., Long term follow-up of 58 patients with sex cord stromal tumors, 7TH BIENNIAL MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL GYNECOLOGIC CANCER SOCIETY, 1999, pp. 201-205
Fifty-eight cases of Sex Cord Stromal Tumors were studied. These neoplasms
are detected characteristically at an early stage and they may recur locall
y years after the initial diagnosis. In our series the most frequent cell t
ype was Adult Granulosa Cell Tumor (70.7%); a total of 34 patients (58.6%)
had stage IA lesions. Uterine adenocarcinoma and endometrial hyperplasia we
re found in 13.8% and 5.2% of cases respectively. Among the 34 stage TA, 8
(23.5%) underwent conservative surgery whereas a definitive surgery was per
formed in the remaining 26 (76.5%). Adjuvant chemotherapy (VAC-PVB or FEB)
vas administered to 5/34 (14.7%) stage IA and to 21/24 (87.5%) patients wit
h more advanced disease. The actuarial 5-year survival rate is 90.7% in sta
ge I-II and 12.5% in stage III-IV. Two out of 5 patients with recurrent dis
ease, who had received combined surgery and chemotherapy as a salvage treat
ment, survived.
