The study aimed at evaluating a 6-month therapy with the application of 17
beta-estradiol with levonogestrel with regards to carbohydrate and lipid me
tabolism of women in peri- and post-menopausal age. A significant decrease
of total cholesterol was observed in the treated group vs. the untreated pa
tients, with a parallel lack of any effect of that therapy on the level of
triglycerides. In the group of women, submitted to the therapy, an enlarged
field under the glucose curve was found, together with increased insulin l
evels before breakfast and higher insulin/glucose indicator. None of the ch
anges were observed in the group of untreated patients. The obtained result
s stand for an evidence of improved lipid metabolism and of deteriorated ca
rbohydrate metabolism in women submitted to hormonal replacement therapy.
