Community-based. cross-sectional factor analysis of climacteric symptoms wa
s performed on all the 50 y/o women living in an urban area in Japan. Multi
ple regression analysis revealed that. among the 10 symptoms evaluated, com
plaints of hot flashes, sweating insomnia and depression demonstrated signi
ficant association with menopausal status. It was also demonstrated that wo
men complained of severe symptoms when they estimate themselves unhealthy w
orrisome, were bad at making a change of pace, feel that they are not wealt
hy: do not sleep 5 hours or more, eat snacks between meals, take more anima
l fat and are with BMI less than 20 or greater than 23. Thus, promoting a h
ealthy life-style, stress reduction and a positive attitude towards aging a
nd menopause as community interventions were determined to be potentially b
eneficial measures in this population of Japanese women.
