T. Tatarchuk et al., Premenstrual syndrome in different age groups, 9TH INTERNATIONAL MENOPAUSE SOCIETY WORLD CONGRESS ON THE MENOPAUSE, 1999, pp. 65-68
Three groups of patients were recruited into the study: 28 women of 18-29 y
ears (I group), 32 women of 30-35 years (II group) and 30 women of 36-45 ye
ars (III group). The study was carried out on the base of complaints, clini
cal and hormone investigations.
The prevalence of edematous form of premenstrual syndrome /PMS/ (46,4%) was
reported in the first age group, neuropsychopathic form (68,9%) in the sec
ond group and the crisis form (30,05%) in the third group. The frequency of
severe forms of PMS has increased with age. The correlation was found betw
een crisis form of premenstrual syndrome and somatic pathology. Sex hormone
changes have been found in 54,4% of patients.
The data have demonstrated that further endocrine study should be performed
followed by prescribing the adequate hormone treatment for different age g
roups.
