Fu. Deuringer et al., Progestin effect on blood pressure during combination with transdermal estradiol - chlormadinone acetate versus norethisterone acetate, 9TH INTERNATIONAL MENOPAUSE SOCIETY WORLD CONGRESS ON THE MENOPAUSE, 1999, pp. 177-181
To evaluate the effect of chlormadinone acetate (CMA) 2 mg/d or norethister
one acetate 1 mg/d sequentially combined with continuous or cyclical transd
ermal estradiol 0.05 mg/d (ETTS) on blood pressure (BP), 416 peri- and post
menopausal women were treated in an open prospective 4-months study. Mean a
ge, weight, height and menopausal status were comparable in all 4 subgroups
. Between groups as well as within groups analysis showed no statistical di
fferences in BP during monthly measurements. Thus sequential CMA or NETA ha
s no negative impact on BP in normotensive climacteric women when combined
with transdermal estradiol replacement, although in risk patients the effec
t may not be predicted.
