The acceptability of the PEQ (Personal Experience Questionarrier) Japanese
Version and factors affecting sexual functioning were examined in a clinica
l sample by cross-sectional analysis. Comparing Japanese women with Austral
ian women, they were reluctant to answer certain questions. Overall interna
l consistency as measured by Chronbach's alpha was 0.73. Five factors were
found on principal component factor analysis, 1) Sexual Responsivity and Po
sitive Feerings for Partner, 2) Negative Feerings for Partner, 3)Vaginal dr
yness/Dyspareunea, 4) Sexual frequency, 5) Relationship with Partner.
This pilot study found that the PEQ need to be modified for use in Japan. W
hen this is done 5 factors were find and feelings of love towards the partn
er appear to be correrate closely with Japanese women's sexual responsivili
ties.
