Md. Kesim et al., Comparison of the effects of HRT on the blood pressure and symptoms in early menopausal period, 9TH INTERNATIONAL MENOPAUSE SOCIETY WORLD CONGRESS ON THE MENOPAUSE, 1999, pp. 367-372
Objective: We aimed to demonstrate the effects of different Hormon Replacem
ent Therapy (HRT) regimens on cardiovascular and hypoestrogenic symptoms an
d on blood pressure after one year of therapy. Design and Methods: Three hu
ndred and six patients who had menopausal symptoms were accepted in the stu
dy. One hundred two of them were in surgical menopause and two hundred four
were in natural menopause. All patients were investigated for menopausal c
omplaints. We have evaluated their laboratory results. We started convenien
t HRT protocol to patients without any contraindications. There were seven
different protocols, five were oral and two were transdermal. We have recor
ded blood pressure differences, in Kupperman index and hypoestrogenic index
before and after the therapy. Results: In all of the seven protocols the K
upperman index was significantly reduced after the therapy. The hypoestroge
nic index was also significantly reduced except in the Tibolone group. In a
ll groups there were no significant differences in blood pressure after the
therapy. Conclusion: It is important to use HRT at the right time and proc
edure because it abolishes early climacteric complaints and in the long ter
m period it provides profilaxis for osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease
s.
